St. Paul's College

general information

Students welfare is catered for by a network including: Guidance Counsellor, chaplain, campus minister, deans, form teachers, and careers advisor.

Discipline
Students are expected to conform to the College rules at all times, and treat other people, and property with respect. Uniform is to be worn with pride and all students are expected to behave as ambassadors for the College. We follow a policy of zero tolerance with regard to behaviour aspects such as drugs, violence and bullying.

Absence
It is the College policy to automatically contact the home if a student is absent in the morning. However, if a student is going to be absent, a message should be sent to the College, by phone, fax email or note as soon as possible.

If students are likely to be absent for more than two days, the College will organise a HOME-STUDY WORK PACKAGE to ensure that the student can keep up to date with his work. On returning to College, a dated letter signed by the parent/guardian, stating the duration of and reason for absence, is required to be given to his year/form teacher.

Homework
In order for a student to reach his full academic potential, regular homework is set in all subjects; this homework is recorded in a small homework diary. We would realistically expect one hour’s homework per night in Year 7, increasing up to three hours in Years 11, 12 and 13. We stress the importance of a quiet area in which the student may study.

Scholarship
Each year, the Hugh Graham Memorial trust awards scholarships to students of all ages, who have made outstanding progress or achievement

News

The improvement in our College academic performance has been highlighted by the outstanding achievements of our Head Prefect and 2010 Dux John Palavi. In the 55 years since St Paul's opened, no student has ever won as many awards at Prizegiving as John did this week. John was awarded a total of 21 awards as well as The  University of Auckland Chancellors Award for Top Maori and Pacific Scholars valued at $35,000. He also received the latest Lap top computer from Toshiba. As well as being our Dux and our Head Prefect, John is also a Member of the Under 20 NZ Warriors Team that recently won the Under 20 NRL Toyota cup competition. John is an excellent Role Model, his time management skills are outstanding and he is a fantastic leader. We congratulate John and look forward to following his bright future.
